What To Do When Things Aren't Moving in Your Business
We’ve all been there, there’s stuff you’ve got to get done, you’ve got to make forward progress in your business, but for some reason, things just aren’t moving.
I don’t write this from the summit of the mountain that we’re all trying to climb.
I haven’t quite figured it out yet either. I’m here in the trenches with you.
But here are some things I’ve learned along the way.
Maybe we can push ourselves forward together.
Know How You Operate
I’m working my way through Gretchen Rubin’s book The Four Tendencies. It’s all about how we handle inner and outer expectations.
There’s the Upholder who readily meets inner and outer expectations.
The Questioner who meets inner expectations but questions outer ones.
The Obligor who meets outer expectations but not ones they place upon themselves.
And lastly the Rebel, who shuns inner and outer expectation.
Gretchen argues that knowing how you and those around you meet expectations can help you to take control.
For example, I’m a total Obligor, I get my client work done because my clients are expecting it.
However, I sometimes struggle to get out blog posts or post on social media because no one is there to hold me accountable.
I’m working on putting outside accountability into place to make sure I get this stuff done.
Check out her book, learn how you function and put steps into place to help you get stuff done.
Smart To Do Lists
Apparently, I’m on a self-help kick because I’m also working my way through Chalene Johnson’s book Push.
She talks about figuring out your priorities, aligning your goals with those priorities and selecting the one goal that will help you move them all forward.
Then you chip away at that one goal, the push goal, by adding 2-3 simple tasks to your daily to-do list that move you toward that goal.
When you stay focused and break it down into simple steps you’ll get to your goal faster than you could imagine.
And since you’re focusing on your Push goal, you’re making a smarter to-do list, a list that isn’t trying to take you in 4 or 5 different directions all at once.
My Push goal to hit a consistent monthly revenue target.
So I’m taking small daily steps towards getting in front of business owners I can serve and growing an email list of people I can help.

Delegating
Sometimes we eventually conclude that it’s time to stop procrastinating on something and just delegate it to someone else.
Because someone out there is going to love that task.
One of my favorite clients decided it was time to stop procrastinating on her bookkeeping and have it done for her.
In her words: “Total sigh of relief. I don't know why I've been fighting this for so long. Time to DELEGATE!”
Where can you get extra help in your business or life?
Perhaps it’s hiring a virtual assistant, a bookkeeper, or a house cleaner.
What are you spending your precious time on that could easily be done by someone else?
